Research study into decision making in health care

Dr Roy Gilbar is looking at the family in relation to the decision making process and how this works in practice as well as in relation to the current UK Law. THe Genetics Interest Group, of which Cavernoma Alliance UK is a member, was pleased to support Roy in his research and we hope that you will be able to spare a some time to discuss with Roy in more detail how you, and or your family have made decisions regarding your health, in particular when a difficult decision has had to be made. Dr Gilbar writes:

My name is Dr. Roy Gilbar and I am a research fellow in Queen Mary College University of London. I am starting a research project that is funded by the Nuffield Foundation, looking at the role of the patient's family in health care; especially when important decisions about testing, diagnosis, treatment and the like have to be made.

I would like to conduct interviews with doctors, nurses, patients and relatives where a serious or life changing decision has been made. The interviews will take up to an hour and will be conducted at your home or at any other place of your choosing.

This research has been approved by an NHS ethics committee (ref. 09/H0502/9), so your confidentiality, privacy and autonomy will always be protected at all times.

If you have been diagnosed with a serious illness, such as cancer, heart disease or Alzheimer's disease, in the last 6 to 9 months and would like to share your experience and views, or receive more information about this project, please contact me: Dr Roy Gilbar, The School of Law, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS, Mobile: 07792-323386, landline: 020-8436-0186, email address:

If you would like more details do not hesitate to contact Dr Gilbar on the numbers provided.
